Them Swoops have had a musical hibernation for two and a half years and are back with their new single Into The Atmosphere. If you check their Facebook page you’ll see it’s been nearly a year between a cover photo update and a profile picture change. So naturally fans would be worried, but at the end of last year they put up the new single on their SoundCloud, so we all took a sigh of relief and pressed play.

Them Swoops into the atmosphere

Melbourne lads Them Swoops make their return with the catchy Into The Atmosphere. It’s a new sound for the band, but it works in their favour.

If you haven’t heard of Them Swoops or the name sounds vaguely familiar here is the run down. The band at its core is a duo comprised of Dave McGan and Chris Goff who formed in 2012 where they gained huge momentum with their first single Work Around It. After a very successful year of supporting acts and selling out tours they released their debut EP Glimmers in early 2013. The four-track EP gave us beach vibes, mixed in with an indie rock sound so more Last Dinosaurs and San Cisco than electronic.

The Melbourne locals were AWOL for a while without any reason we know of; it’s particularly weird because they had gained a huge following so early on in their career. So the question we need to know more than “what were they doing during those years?” is “why did they take such a long absence of leave?” Regardless, what they’ve returned with more than makes up for their absence.

Into The Atmosphere is a happy-go-lucky type with the indie rock sound layered with synths. It’s a perfect start to the year and the rebirth of their band. They’ve changed their tune, literally with this single compared to their previous works by adding an electronic element to their music but they keep that classic indie rock vibe we all love.

If you froth everything synth and indie pop, you’re going to have to listen to this song because we guarantee your head won’t stop bopping. This track has the feel of Strange Talk, Bingo Players and Bag Raiders who we all know are indie pop and synth heavy at the best of times.

Fingers crossed they post music more frequently because every couple of years is killing us. They launched their single on the 15th of January at the Grace Darling so Melbournians listen out for any more future gigs coming your way, everyone else please be patient because I feel a tour coming very soon.
