Flutes and strap-ons: Björk’s new press shots are pure, incredible Björk weirdness

Björk‘s new album Utopia is set to be released on November 24th. And, as we’re sure the record will mirror, the effort she’s put into the visual accompaniments for it are next level.

Bjork’s Utopia album cover

Björk’s new album Utopia is out very soon. We just stumbled across her new press shots and they are pure Björk weirdness. Enjoy.

The record is Björk’s ninth, and has been teased for quite some time.

14 of the songs were co-written with Venezuelan electronic producer, Arca, and one of the songs was co-written with Sarah Hopkins. Björk also formed a twelve piece Icelandic female flute orchestra for the album, which she arranged for and conducted.

The album’s artwork (check it out above) was created in collaboration of M/M, Jesse Kanda and James Merry and reflects the record’s sonic direction; optimism, and lightness. It’s wonderfully weird, as are the press shots accompanying the album. We thought you’d enjoy. Check them out below.

In a statement on her Facebook to announce the album she wrote:

“i am so overwhelmingly humble while announcing my album utopia is coming out end of nov . i can´t wait for you to hear it . this is the cover made by the warm extraordinary talented Jesse Kanda and was assisted by me , James Merry and Hungry . thank you for telepathically getting me !! over the moon and jupiter gratitudes to magical Arca for making the music of this album with me : what a profound and nourishing trip this has been !!! thousandfold appreciation and headbowing . hope you like it , warmth , björk”

Have a look at the video for the gate too, directed by Andrew Thomas Huang. Another piece of magic.

Utopia is out Friday November 24 on Pod/Inertia Music.
