To celebrate its 50th birthday, the Beatles’ 1968 self-titled LP, best known simply as the White Album, is getting a special reissue.
The mammoth box set will be released November 9th via Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe and will include heaps of previously unheard material.
The Beatles’ White Album is being reissued for its 50th birthday and will feature a load of early acoustic demos and previously unheard session takes.
According to Pitchfork, the double album’s was remixed by Giles Martin (the son of Beatles’ producer George Martin who originally produced the record) and engineer Sam Okell in both stereo and 5.1 surround audio. Giles also remixed Sgt. Pepper’s for its 50th-anniversary edition last year (and did a damn fine job).
“In remixing ‘The White Album,’ we’ve tried to bring you as close as possible to The Beatles in the studio,” explains Giles Martin in his written introduction for the new edition. “We’ve peeled back the layers of the ‘Glass Onion’ with the hope of immersing old and new listeners into one of the most diverse and inspiring albums ever made.”
The super deluxe set will feature 27 early acoustic demos and 50 session takes, many of which have never been released.
It will feature seven discs in total, as well as a 164-page hardbound book of rare photographs, a fold-out poster, reproductions of handwritten lyrics, written pieces by Paul McCartney, Kevin Howlett, John Harris, and more.
The deluxe edition includes the acoustic Esther Demos, a limited edition four-LP vinyl box set, a 24-page booklet, and more. A standard double LP vinyl edition will also be available. The artwork was created by British artist Richard Hamilton.
