Moby is cleaning house and it’s all for charity. That’s good news for us, because now more than 100 synths and pieces of studio gear will be up for grabs through Reverb from April 27.
The iconic electronic musician/beloved weirdo is partnering with the online gear store to raise money for anti-cruelty group Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. All proceeds from the sales will be donated to the charity, who strive to provide alternatives to animal-based research.
On the move, Moby quipped, “This is the equipment I’ve used to make all my records.”
Moby is selling over 100 pieces of studio equipment through his Reverb store, ranging from synths and turntables, to guitars and sombreros. Plus, it’s all for a good cause.
There is a plethora of synths, turntables and microphones to be sold off. Among them, the Roland Jupiter-6 (formally owned by Joey Beltram) used on “almost every early techno record” made by Moby.
“I have so much equipment and almost all of it has profound sentimental value to me, including synthesizers I started using in the 80’s. But rather than keep it all in storage, I want to sell it for a good cause.”
The store will stock a 1980s Ibanez guitar, used primarily by the muso from 1984 to 1998. Even the Yamaha SY22 vector synth, used to write his first single Go, will hit the market.
Moby will also be selling a custom Serge Modular (the Roland Juno-106) used on Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad.
Moby’s Reverb store will open in Australia on April 27.
