The way a stellar rap verse can get shoved on top of almost any genre is astounding (if infuriating to other vocalists).
Whether it’s Childish Gambino sampling the instrumentals from Grizzly Bear‘s Two Weeks, or Koi Child‘s frontman Cruz spitting fire over their brass-infused, pyschedelic jazz beats, every couple of months you hear a sick rap verse over something you couldn’t have picked.
We all know what Bon Voyage means, but what about Booshie? The word is almost as hard to come by as this track’s left-field genre of hip-house.
Enter Bon Voyage, the French/American hybrid trio pushing summer house layered under relaxed, flowing rap verses. This trans-atlantic hip-house, as dubbed by the fellas themselves, is pushing all the right buttons.
Having no idea what the main lick of the track “she booshie don’t you know” was on about, Urban Dictionary was an obvious choice. For those sharing the confusion, a booshie is a stuck-up, pretentious high-roller who thinks they’re better than you. The kind of thing you hope your mates don’t call you behind your back.
Whether you’re booshie or not, this is one track to get behind. Rap verses over this bubbly style of house is something you could count on in some remixes circulating at the moment, but it’s interesting to see emerging, exciting producers jumping on this unique style.
