YouTube add songwriter, label and publisher credits to millions of songs

As of today, more than half a billion YouTube videos will contain new credits such as songwriter, label and publisher data.

YouTube have announced that they are adding the credits across premium music videos and to content featuring recorded music.

Media giant YouTube has announced that credits for millions of songs will be rolled out across their platform, much to the delight of those in the music industry.

The change will affect millions of songs, and details will continually be added to clips. Credits can be accessed through the ‘Show More’ button. On certain songs, details such as artist, songwriter, publisher and label information will appear.

In a blog post, YouTube stated the act will “provide greater recognition and exposure to the people who contribute to the creative process [and] more opportunities for artists and songwriters to reach YouTube’s diverse audience.”

The move comes months after Spotify added songwriting credits to their platforms with information supplied by record labels.

Many in the industry view the data being fed into YouTube’s Content ID technology as a positive move for copyright owners.

YouTube further stated that they are “committed to providing recognition to all of the people who contribute to the creative process, and this is just the beginning.”

“Through our industry partnerships we will expand the scope and quality of data to ensure all creators are credited as completely and accurately as possible.”
