Your girl KÖDA is back at it with 57, a song about loving and losing

Since exploding into #1 on triple j’s Unearthed Charts with her single Scissors, singer songwriter KÖDA has continued to grow, establishing herself as one of Australia’s foremost emerging vocalists.

But for the last couple of months, KÖDA has been refining a sound she calls “whack pop”, unveiled on her sophomore release 57.

While 57 has those familiar KÖDA elements – odd time signatures and an intense, underlying rhythm – the release presents a more mature sound as she dives into issues of loss, love and heartbreak.

“It’s a complicated story that shows how love can go from good to bad very quickly, and so often there’s no room for second chances.”

Lyrically, the songstress dives deep into themes of heartbreak and the honesty of love, baring her soul as she explores strength in vulnerability. Although the songs are more personal and in stark contrast to her earlier, light-hearted work, in no way do they stray from KÖDA’s strong, self assured, ‘can’t-touch-this’ attitude.

Teaming up again with producer and friend, Sean Hutton, 57 is a co-writing product pushing past convention and boundaries. Together, they capture the heaviness of rock music to create something that is brutally authentic, intelligently refined and unmistakably KÖDA.

KÖDA has also been working hard as the newest member of indie rock band, Tempus Sun, who are still riding high on the success of single Stopp, which features the artist’s trademark vocals and songwriting finesse.

If you want to catch the new single live, head along to the 57 single launch at Yah Yah’s in Fitzroy, Melbourne on Friday October 12th. Grab all the info you need here.
