Adelaide’s iconic festival WOMADelaide is back for another year in 2019, just dropping its first lineup of super talented artists from around the world.
Since it was established in 1992, WOMADelaide has quickly become one of the most prolific world music, arts and culture festivals on the planet.
Angélique Kidjo is one of the most anticipated acts at Adelaide’s annual celebration of world music, arts and culture. Kidjo will perform a reinvented version of Talking Heads‘ seminal 1980 album Remain in Light. The album, which was heavily influenced by the music of West Africa, has been flipped on its head by Kidjo as part of her performance and sees her and her band play using Afrobeat horns and percussion.
Dona Onete, the Grande Dame of Amazonian Song, will be flying over from Brazil to wow audiences with her unique twist on Carimbo, a blend of rhythms from native Brazilians, African slaves and the Caribbean.
The 35-person strong Central Australian Aboriginal Women’s Choir will be performing a blend of German hymns and other predominantly sacred music in the Western Arrarnta and Pitjantjatjara, the two living languages of the NT and SA.
Julia Jacklin, The John Butler Trio and Tkay Maidza will also join the impressive lineup.
