Here’s exactly who voted in triple j’s Hottest 100 this year

January 27th is only days away, and the world is surely warming up for triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2017. The first not to be held on Australia/Invasion Day, this year’s countdown is already special enough.

That being said, a new chunk of stats courtesy of the j’s are proving why it’s (hopefully) set to be their wildest year yet.

Get your votes in to triple j’s Hottest 100? More fans have laid down their favourites than ever before, crafting some serious competition around this year’s program.

A total of 2,386,133 votes have been received by triple j, which marks a 5.81% increase from last year. That’s also the countdown’s biggest voter tally to date, officially making the Hottest 100 of 2017 the biggest ever. Rightly so.

51% of the votes were cast by women and 48% by men, with 1% answering ‘Other’ or ‘No Answer’. It brings to mind that only 14 female solo artists and 12 female guest vocalists made it into the countdown last year… hopefully we see a higher representation this time around.

NSW accounted for 29% of the votes, Victoria accounted for 23%, Queensland totalled 20%, and WA clocked up 11%. SA, ACT, Tasmania and NT accounted for 8%, 3%, 3% and 1% of the votes respectively, while only 2% of the votes came in from overseas.

80% of this year’s voters were under 30, with the most common age being 21.
