Whether he would have wanted it or not, you can now access Prince’s entire discography via streaming services

Prince’s catalog is now widely avaliable to stream once more.

Back in 2015, it was pulled from every major streaming service except for Tidal. Then, following his death last year, Prince’s estate sued Jay Z’s company Roc Nation too, claiming that they didn’t have the exclusive rights to his discography.

Now Warner Bros. have seen that his catalog will return to streaming all major streaming services, including Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Pandora, iHeartRadio and more.

Whether he would have wanted it or not, you can now access Prince’s entire discography via all major streaming services, including Spotify, Pandora and more.

Talking about controversial move, chairman & CEO of Warner Bros. Records, Cameron Strang said in a press release:

“Prince recorded his most influential and popular music during his time with Warner Bros. and we are deeply aware of our responsibility to safeguard and nurture his incredible legacy.  Warner Bros. is thrilled to be able to bring Prince’s music to his millions of fans around the world via streaming services, fittingly on music’s biggest night. We’d like to thank Prince’s estate, Universal Music Publishing, the Grammy Awards and all of the streaming services for their great collaboration in making this landmark event possible.”

Throughout his lifetime, Prince was a vehement opposer to streaming services. In 2015, he told the Guardian that the “the internet is completely over”, later clarifying:

“What I meant was that the internet was over for anyone who wants to get paid, and I was right about that. Tell me a musician who’s got rich off digital sales. Apple’s doing pretty good though, right?”

The music which will be added to streaming services does not include the vault of “a century’s worth of unreleased material” discovered at Prince’s estate last year.
