When Vivid Sydney gigs are getting shut down at 9:30pm, something is desperately fucking wrong

Every year now, Vivid Sydney lights up our city in more ways than one. While technicolour spotlights illuminate the very skies above, world class musicians, artists and speakers congregate in Sydney for what is becoming an internationally acclaimed cultural event.

If you live here, you’re lucky enough to experience this over and over. But imagine you’ve come from the other side of the world to experience what, to you, is a once-in-a-lifetime event. You go to a gig to see a great band, and it gets shut down at 9:30pm.

I honestly hate to contribute to the ongoing negative rhetoric around Sydney’s nightlife, here at Happy we’re generally about the positivity ya know? But sometimes stuff just sucks.

After an official Vivid Sydney event has been shut down at 9:30pm following a noise complaint, the city’s blatant disregard for nighttime culture has never shined so bright.

The show in question, a SKATE OR DIE operation featuring a performance by Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of a Tony Hawk Pro Skater Cover Band (what a fucking name, by the way), was cut short after four songs following an anonymous noise complaint.

Vivid Sydney is one of the largest contributors to our city’s fading cultural capital right now. If this too has been compromised, what does that say?

Check out the band’s post below:

One of the Happy team attended the Repressed Records 15th anniversary gig last night at the Opera House itself, the beating heart of Vivid. They loved the show, but were dismayed to only watch each act perform for 25 minutes tops. Total Control themselves apologised for the short set.

Yeah, something is wrong. But then again, I guess we knew that already.
