Introducing Weave: a month-long celebration of Indigenous art, culture and film in Australia

Weave

2018 will usher in the inaugural Weave Festival, presented by The Australian Museum.

Running for an entire month from the 1st of March, Weave will take you through the journeys of Australia’s Indigenous people through song, dance, visual arts and discussion.

Weave

Weave will be bringing Indigenous art-making processes to the forefront, articulating the stories behind their makers and providing a platform for large scale and intricate works to be showcased like never before.

Huge installations of traditional weaving will act as the centre-point for the event, while smaller works will tie in the multitude of cultures being showcased and celebrated.

The festival aims to educate and communicate through storytelling, workshops and interaction with its audiences. Artists will be travelling from all over Australia to contribute, and the event will mark one of the largest scale and most well curated exhibitions of Indigenous art the museum has shown to date.

AM Director and CEO Kim McKay commented on the upcoming event:

“The AM’s inaugural Festival of Aboriginal and Pacific cultures will weave together historical and modern knowledge, art and experiences, to build a better shared future for all Australians.”

If you’re in Sydney anytime soon, don’t miss your opportunity to be a part of this massive event.
