Watch Sigur Rós break hearts as they close out the inaugural edition of their own festival

While you were busy existing in that awkward drunken haze that exists between Christmas and New Years Eve where you’re not really sure what day it is or whether it’s too early to be cracking your first tin, Sigur Rós were putting on their very own festival in their hometown of Reykjavík, Iceland.

With a lineup featuring the likes of Mogwai, My Bloody Vanlentine’s Kevin Shields, Jarvis Cocker, Peaches and more, the band opted to close out the night themselves. Because why the hell not.

Watch Sigur Rós’ spectacular final performance at the inaugural edition of their very own festival, Norður Og Niður, below.

The show was a special one for the band, their last following a long, gruelling world tour. And what better way than to finish up the year than headlining your own festival.

The band filmed the entire show and put it on their Youtube alongside the caption seen below. It’s a pretty spectacular performance, watch here (the actual show begins about 9 minutes into the first clip, and in the second clip there’s a 25 minute interval around the 16 minute mark).

“127 shows over 19 months in 37 countries on 5 continents – it’s been, as they say, a long strange trip, and tonight it comes to an end with the final show, where else, but in the band’s hometown of reykjavík, as the climax of their norður og niður 4-day festival extravaganza….the future is unwritten, so be present. over and out.”
