Watch Patti Smith tear through a rendition of ‘People Have The Power’ with her kids on Fallon

At 70 years old, you might expect Patti Smith slowly recede from the limelight she has bathed in since her early twenties to reflect on a life of inimitable artistry. But no, she’s still fervently active in the realms of art, music, and literature – and she’s not lost any of the zeal she has flaunted for decades.

Patti Smith Jimmy Fallon

Watch Patti Smith tear through a rendition of People Have The Power with her kids, Jackson and Jesse on The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

The other night, Smith was the music guest on The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. She was joined by the Roots’ Questlove on drums and her children, Jackson and Jesse on guitar and keys to play People Have the Power, a track that originally appeared on her 1988 album, Dream of Life.

The performance was ahead of a show tonight at Central Park in New York in honour of Smith’s late husband (and Jackson and Jesse’s father), Fred ‘Sonic’ Smith, who died in 1994 (and also co-wrote People Have the Power).

Watch the performance below.
