Watch Jack White and Nas reunite for a powerful performance of ‘One Mic’

In case you missed it, Jack White is creating a documentary on the history of recorded music called American Epic, because who the hell else would?

The upcoming film, co-produced by Robert Redford and T Bone Burnett, features sessions recorded on revitalised vintage equipment from Willie Nelson, Beck, Elton John and Nas, amongst others.

Watch Jack White and Nas reunite for a powerful performance of One Mic from Nas’ 2001 album Stillmatic.

We’ve already been treated to one live collab between White and Nas, where they covered the Memphis Jug Band’s 1928 classic On The Road Again, a song that they noted was a pivotal point in the genesis of rap music.

Now another live recording has been released, this time the duo doing One Mic from Nas’ 2001 album, Stillmatic.

The video features Nas’ grainy rhymes backed by White on piano, plus drums and a double bass.

You can also watch Jack White and Elton John doing an original called Two Fingers of Whisky here.

Around the release of American Epic, Legacy Recordings is releasing the companion soundtrack, as well as a 100-song box set. Columbia Records will release the American Epic Sessions studio performances, while White’s own Third Man Records plans to release the Sessions soundtrack and selections of the archival recordings on vinyl.
