Goodbye Thump: Vice turns off their electronic music channel amid international layoffs

Thump, Vice Media’s dedicated electronic music channel, has officially been closed down.

Citing their expansion into video as a primary reason, Vice has laid off around two percent of their 3,000 global employees. Amongst these cuts, Thump as well as Vice Sports have been canned entirely.

Vice Media’s electronic music arm, Thump, has closed its doors permanently amongst a series of international layoffs.

During its time in the sun, Thump enjoyed a huge tastemaker presence in the greater dance music scene. House, techno, experimental and underground releases all saw publication within its pages.

They also played a hand in a ton of electronic gigs, in Australia and internationally.

Editor Michelle Lhooq confirmed the closure, tweeting that a story about Arca’s boots was the “final post ever.”

Electronic, underground and nightlife content will be moved to Vice’s main channel in light of the change.
