Almost six years after it opened its doors, iconic Sydney institution The Record Crate will this weekend cease all operations indefinitely.

Venue operators Nev and Belle have confirmed their Glebe Point Road record store, music venue and bar will close its doors to the public on Sunday, September 16 as they prepare to move “right next door” into a new bar venture called Bloody Mary’s.

Taking to Facebook to share the news, owners of The Record Crate in Glebe have announced their much-loved venue will be shutting its doors.

In a statement which has since been removed from the venue’s Facebook page, the team at The Record Crate said:

“Sydney culture has changed so dramatically over the past two or three years and we simply could not keep up. We urge everyone to go to gigs, pay the door fee, support your muso friends, buy a drink (even a soft drink) and respect venues that are trying, desperately, to stay open and support our musicians. Please KEEP SYDNEY OPEN.

“To all the brilliant bands, soloists, poets, storytellers, DJ’s, punks, rockers, metal heads, international artists, regulars, visitors, dog lovers, chefs, wait / bar staff, friends, and family, we have had the most amazing adventure and we hope you have too.”

The Record Crate team’s new venture, Bloody Mary’s, will feature “some live music”, and the pair has urged local musicians to keep in touch.
