The kind of track that would’ve been given birth to lying on a bed casually strumming a guitar. There’s no sense of meticulously planning or plotting and it’s exactly that organic and spontaneous flow of the lyrics and melody that make is so charming. Denton’s voice is unforced and flows like a melodic train of thought.
A nod to the confusing, frustrating early twenties, reflecting that familiar conflict of ambition and laziness. The apathetic, lethargic feel of the vocals twisted in with dreamy guitar riffs creates something that is far more striking and compelling than your average shoegaze band.
Wading In acts as an emotional documentary of the lives of your typical, creative twenty-somethings – a theme that is carried along with this band if you check out other tracks like Quarter Life Crisis. I can’t help but feel this track has been spurred on by that vicious cycle of intoxicated playtime followed by too many mornings of spaced-out hangovers and memory loss.
Somehow, The Ocean Party have managed to create a song referencing cigarette ash with a distinct absence of pretentiousness – their down-to-earth vibe reflected in their homemade video. Such a humble and refreshing change from watching clips of bands fake-playing guitar and miming unenthusiastically.
The hypnotic, weariness of this new release is one of those songs that is so lovely and relatable that you’ll find yourself lost inside of it.
