Need some funk in your life? Look no further than The Ninth Chapter’s debut album

After over a decade of touring and a handful of EPs, Aussie six-piece The Ninth Chapter have just dropped their self-titled debut. The funk-heavy release expertly blends jazz and blues influences with thumping bass lines and a rich horn section.

The band dropped the aptly named What’s Going To Happen Next as their first single late last year. After releasing their second single My Own Time a few weeks ago, the tone for the album was expertly set.

Expertly blending jazz, blues, and funk with modern musical styles, The Ninth Chapter release their debut self titled album with much anticipation from fans.

The Ninth Chapter combines modern musical styles with the jazz and blues stars of old to create something original and form pushing, each track standing as an expert demonstration of modern funk.

You can’t help but move to the blend of bass, horns and percussion – and it just gets better as you keep listening. Fifth track Other People’s Eyes is a well-received, more subtle breakdown in the middle of an otherwise very meaty album.

What’s Going To Happen Next is polished funk and blues perfection, vocalist Jaz Munro adding just the right amount of grit to the otherwise single clean groove.

The Ninth Chapter was recorded by Geoff Wright at Lucky Boy Analogue Studios in Byron Bay, and you can almost smell the happy-go-lucky Byron Bay attitude emanating from each musical phrase. It’s an album that makes you want to find a spot in the sun, drink wine from the bottle, and dance until your feet give out.
