The Lion King is getting a live action transformation featuring Childish Gambino and OG Mufasa

With so many Disney classics already transformed into live action, it’s not surprise The Lion King is next.

The remake will be directed by Jon Favreau, who also directed and co-produced The Jungle Book in 2016. Favreau announced on Twitter the actors for two of the main characters, Simba and Mufasa.

After the success of The Jungle Book, Jon Favreau is ticking off another Disney classic with a live action remake of The Lion King starring two big actors.

Favreau’s The Jungle Book was a critically acclaimed hit and smashed box office records, grossing more than AUD $1 billion and becoming the fifth highest grossing film of the year and the 32nd highest grossing film of all time. The voice over cast included Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Walken and Scarlett Johansson.

Favreau’s The Lion King will have some big names too. He announced on Twitter that Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) will play Simba and James Earl Jones will be Mufasa.

Glover has succeeded behind and in front of the camera in multiple films, including TV shows Atlanta, 30 Rock and Community.

Legendary actor Jones voiced Mufasa in the 1994 film, as well Darth Vader in the Star Wars series and an appearance in the Simpson’s Treehouse of Horror Halloween special.
