The Ians deliver a hefty serving of grunge on their new single Gold Teeth

Melbourne-via-Canberra trio The Ians don’t like the idea of being boxed into one genre. Their music is a cocktail of early ’90s grunge, coastal surf punk and naughties Brit-pop.

With their latest offering, the single Gold Teeth, the band have signalled that their music is heading in a brand new direction.

The Ians return with their latest single Gold Teeth, an ambitious step in a grungier direction.

Gold Teeth was recorded with Greg Rietwyk (of Press Club) at The Aviary in Melbourne. With sounds reminiscent of early Arctic Monkeys, Violent Soho and DZ Deathrays, The Ians’ take on modern grunge has amassed the band over 40,000 Youtube streams, 10,00o Spotify streams and an infinite amount of praise online.

Speaking on Gold Teeth, singer Nick:

“We’re really excited to release this song, it’s probably the best thing we’ve done so far. Very keen to take it on the road and we think people will really like it.”

“We experiment with a lot of ideas from a lot of angles to find the best ones, this one kind of came out like a fusion of [Bob] Dylan and [Kurt] Cobain. Basically, if those guys got together and tried to write a club banger but all they had were guitars.”

With Gold Teeth The Ians take their music in another direction. Elephant Fresh maintained a more psych oriented sound, with roaring guitar riffs and belting drums. Gold Teeth promises a grungier feel. The clip’s fuzzy visuals could pass as a live gig straight out of Seattle in the early 1990s.

The Ians are playing on December 7th at The Bendigo Hotel with The Trepids, The Miyagis and Black Snake Whip as part of their four-date Gold Teeth single tour.
