Robert Smith confirms The Cure’s new album is finished

The Cure frontman Robert Smith has confirmed that the band’s 14th studio album is finally finished. It’s the first new music we’ve had from the iconic UK outfit in more than a decade.

Keeping us on our toes, the still-to-be-titled record has no release date yet.

The past 12 months have been a whirlwind for The Cure. Celebrating their induction into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame, they began working on their new album before doing a massive world tour, and returning to finish the record.

Speaking about their recent tour on The John Maytham Show on Cape Town radio station Cape Talk, Smith said “We’ve enjoyed it and we’ve just recorded a new album for the first time in 10 years.”

He added that he was “still doing this for the right reasons”.

This year is the 30th anniversary of The Cure’s magnum opus Disintegration. The record is acclaimed as one of the band’s best albums, coming in at number 326 in Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

To celebrate, they’re playing four Vivid LIVE shows in at the Sydney Opera House in May. These Vivid LIVE performances will mark the world premiere of their Disintegration anniversary tour and the band’s only Australian shows.

The Sydney Opera House has advised fans who missed out on tickets to watch for announcements on their Facebook page in the case more become available. The first release sold out immediately (obviously).
