The Adults’ new video will hit you right on the chin

You may recognise the name Jon Toogood from his days playing with legendary New Zealand rock band Shihad… though on his new project The Adults, Toogood crafts something starkly different.

While the new project still possesses the raw sounds of Shihad’s blistering rock, The Adults craft percussive and incredibly endearing slices of hip-hop.

New Zealand hip-hop group The Adults belt out a raw and attention-grabbing brand of hip-hop that’ll smack you right on the chin.

Toogood was at his wedding in Khartoum, Sudan when he was exposed to the Aghani Al-Banat style of music (a style performed exclusively by women).

It was his exploration of these sounds that led to the development of The Adults’ genre defying, contemporary hip-hop sound.

On their new video for Take It On Chin, the band cruise through the streets of Auckland in one of the toughest looking vehicles you’ll ever see.

The clip’s stunning black and white videography sits perfectly with the track’s cruisey vocal delivery and understated production.

Take It On The Chin was taken off the group’s most recent album Haja, which is available to stream now.

For now, do yourself a favour and listen to the new track above.
