A nugget of jazz history has popped up on eBay today; a mono test pressing of John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme.
Coltrane’s best-selling and most famous record, A Love Supreme was originally released back in 1965. Since then it has been lauded by many as the greatest work of jazz ever composed, and certainly one of the greatest albums ever written.
A mono test pressing of John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme that appeared in an NYC record store is now auctioning for a whopping sum.
Seller thesoundofblue told FACT that they bought the record “a few years ago at Academy Records in NYC. Someone also pointed out that where it says Coltrane it looks like his signature. I am not real sure about that. He usually signed his full name. No idea who Ken Coltrane is.”
