Sydney chosen as 1 of the 5 cities in the world to hold David Bowie’s 70th birthday celebrations

Three weeks ago we announced that a massive birthday bash for the late and great David Bowie would be held to commemorate what would have been his 70th.

Today, the details of the concert series has been released – and Sydney made the esteemed roster.

David Bowie's 70th Birthday

In January Sydney Opera House will play host to an international event celebrating what would have been David Bowie’s 70th birthday.

The five gigs will kick off on Bowie’s birthday, January 8th at O2 Academy in London. The remaining four cities on the tour run are New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Sydney. The Opera House has been chosen for a venue.

According to an event description on New York venue Terminal 5’s website, each event will “aid local charities,” and features “a core two dozen musicians travelling plus many local, regional, and national musicians.”

The core musicians will include Bowie collaborators Mike Garson, Adrian Belew, Earl Slick, Angelo Moore, Gaby Moreno, Bernard Fowler and Joe Sumner, among others.

By coincidence, the tour will roughly mark the first anniversary of the late singer’s passing. No doubt, this will be an amazing way to honour his unexpected death – and fill the crater he left with his departure.
