Spotify has launched a Pandora-like playlists app exclusively in Australia

In July last year, Pandora pulled the pin in Australia, leaving some 1.2 million users who enjoyed using the radio-like streaming service in the lurch. Now it seems that Spotify are attempting to fill the void – they’ve just announced a new standalone app avaliable exclusively in Australia called ‘Stations’.

As The Daily Dot report, the app is accessible only on Android. It allows users navigate a super simple interface and choose curated, personalised music stations, much like Pandora.

Spotify has launched a Pandora-like ‘Stations’ app, which is avaliable exclusively in Australia. See the details below.

It is currently free, and you use your Spotify user account to access the app. The streaming service have said it is “the easiest way to listen to the music you love. Totally free.”

The app is super streamlined, yet some of the functionality of Pandora isn’t quite there. At a glance it seems to be a more user-friendly way to access Spotify’s playlist features, with a list of radio stations organised by genre, or by mood.

It also automatically generates new playlists based on your tastes, but you can’t create new ones yourself.

“When you have access to all the music in the world, finding the right thing to play can feel like a challenge,” the app’s description reads. “With Stations, you can listen immediately, and switching stations is simple and seamless—no searching or typing needed. As you listen, it learns what you like and creates personalised stations that you’ll love.”

Spotify have been fairly reticent about the release. “We are always testing new products and experiences, but have no further news to share at this time,” a spokeswoman told Reuters.

If you’re in Australia and an Android user, check out the app via Google play.
