These sleazy guitar straddlers from Melbourne aren’t the kind of folks you’ll see strutting through the CBD in an expensive suit, chatting cash on a bluetooth headset. The bar scene is their home, and the tunes The Crookeds pump out are all the proof you need.
Beacons of the Melbourne pub rock scene, The Crookeds are sliding their way to the top of the game with a soulful take on rock n roll.
We picked the brains of this tasty act, eager to grab their perspective on where The Crookeds really sit.
“We’re four guys from Melbourne who love music. Our sound is pretty versatile, from a heavy rock n roll groove, dash of reggae, to some soul singing. We really just love to put on a good show!”
It’s a darn accurate elevator pitch, the band sonically shifting between pub rock superstars the likes of INXS and more modern groovers (there’s definitely some Sticky Fingers in this cocktail).

Their most recent single Love isn’t your average love song, despite what the title may imply. More of a backroom firestarter than soppy ballad, we had to know what this brand of affection really was.
“Lyrically, its a sort of a sarcastic love. But you could use the word however really! You could say it like; lets rumble, “show me some love”. Or, you’re at our show, you’re here for a good time, show us some love.”
As with their Volume 1 EP, Love proves The Crookeds’ aptitude for eclectic and exciting musical arrangement. Many artists in the same space favour simple progressions, relying instead on catchy, relatable lyrics and shitfaced audiences.

As for what’s coming after Love, The Crookeds have assured us there isn’t long to wait at all.
“At the moment we’re in the middle of recording the second CD. We can all feel that this time around it’s going to be a little heavier, more punchy tracks but still have the same Crookeds vibe as Volume 1.”
Heaviness and punchiness are nothing the average gig goer will disagree with, so expect some big things for the next release. I’ve got a tinnie on the next EP being called Volume 2, but who am I to make those calls?
The Crookeds are launching Love officially at The Evelyn tomorrow! Twisted Willows, The Rollercanes, Violent Monks and Maverick will be on support duties, so it should be a ripper time.
