Irish duo Saint Sister are touring the East Coast this November – don’t miss your chance to watch them play their their ethereal, quietly electrified ‘atmosfolk’ live.
Saint Sister formed in 2014, composed of friends Morgan MacIntyre and Gemma Doherty. Their debut album Shape of Silence was recorded with Alex Ryan from Hozier, with whom they had worked with before on their debut EP, 2015’s Madrid.
Saint Sister are bringing their dreamy, enchanting take on folk around Australia this November. Don’t miss your chance to witness their sweetly melodic, minimal electro-pop live.
Shape of Silence is an album full of tales inspired by Irish folklore as well as personal stories. Musically, it draws from traditional Celtic harp music and ’60s folk, but is also tinged with tight, electronic pop melodies.
As for the recording process with Ryan, Doherty shared, “We found a really good energy between the three of us, and over the course of time have started trusting each other’s instincts a lot more and getting comfortable pushing the boundaries.”
Things escalated for the duo very quickly after forming, when they were asked to open for Arcade Fire’s Will Butler. Their 2016 single Tin Man was nominated for Song of the Year in the Choice Music Prize.
The duo kick off their East Coast tour playing at Sydney Irish Festival on November 10, then Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club on the 11th, followed by Sydney’s Lansdowne on November 13 and Mullum Music Festival from the 17th – 18th.
In Melbourne they’ll be supported by Parkville, and in Sydney they’ll be joined by the awe-inspiring Tesse.
