Ryoji Ikeda’s large-scale ‘micro | macro’ installation is coming to Australia for the first time

Sydney art space Carriageworks has just announced an exhibition presenting the Australian premiere of two enormous installations by composer and artist Ryoji Ikeda.

micro | macro will be a free exhibition, open to the public throughout the month of July. Like much of Ikeda’s work, it examines the intersection of art and technology, and was developed during his time spent at Switzerland’s scientific research centre CERN.

Ryoji Ikeda’s micro | macro is coming to Australia for the very first time this July, opening to the public on July 5th at Carriageworks.

“Following the success of Ryoji’s first two projects at Carriageworks, we are excited to welcome him back for this major new installation, that invites audiences to relate to both the smallest and largest conceivable matter in the universe”, says Carriageworks Director Lisa Havilah.

Ikeda has been a practicing sound artist for over 20 years, and currently has a formidable library of LPs, compilations, experimental tapes and other audio collections to his name. He was awarded the prestigious Prix Ars Electronica in 2014, at which point he began his residency at CERN. It was there he developed micro | macro.
