Remember when you were in high school and by mid-January things started to get pretty dull. It’s hot as hell, holiday activities have dried up and the thought of going back to school no longer seemed like torture. Well, some very smart people saw this holiday lull period as an opportunity; an opportunity to give kids a kickstart into a long and joyous tenure of going to gigs.
The Tomorrow’s People Tour is a travelling, all ages, no drugs, no booze, no bullshit festival that will be tearing around the country this January, at the peak of summer holidays no less. They’ve enlisted some pretty boss acts for kids to cut loose to, with Dylan Joel, E^ST, Kilter and UV Boi filling out the lineup, and we thought the idea was so damn cool we asked each artist to dig deep into that memory bank and tell us about their fondest summer holiday memories and the most relevant soundtrack to go with it. Cue the nostalgia.
We asked the entire Tomorrow’s People lineup – Dylan Joel, E^ST, Kilter and UV Boi – to recall their fondest summer holiday memory and to soundtrack it. Things got pretty nostalgic. Enjoy.
Dylan Joel
Aight! One of my favourite holiday memories, is situated in NSW at a place called Eden. There’s not a whole lot there to be completely honest, but that’s kinda why I dig it! My family and I used to go camping there every second year with a whole bunch of family friends (sometimes up to 40 of us) – real cool. There’s this unreal waterfall called Nethercote Falls that we always climb around to get to the top. It’s pretty much this set of 5 waterholes, that are between 3-5 metre drops from each other and you jump from the edge of one waterhole to the next, until you end up at the top of the main 20 metre high waterfall. And from there you pick what height you want to jump from. I was probably 16 at the time and amidst being in high school, having a whole lot of expectations placed on me and a heap of pressure to keep up with stuff socially, this was such breath of fresh air and escape from all of that. Definitely a time I’ll always remember. Think there’ll be more to come too.
The track to represent this holiday is actually by one of my favourite artists and was a song that my family and family friends bumped on the regular, around the camp site.
E^ST
I am not a big summer person, so my favourite summer holiday memory is probably when I escaped to wintery Sweden in the January and February of 2012 (I had just turned 14). I remember writing a lot of songs, catching a lot of subways and trains, ice skating down the streets, and meeting wonderful people. I developed a strong sense of independence throughout those weeks, which is still with me today.

Kilter
When I was in primary school my family used to go camping every year with a big crew of family friends. Lots of good memories of sandy tents, intense field games in the dunes, bull ant bites (are they still a thing?) and shitty rash shirts. Back then cars didn’t have CD players (they probably did but our van didn’t) so the long drives were sound-tracked by a single Earth, Wind and Fire cassette. September was always the jam but I’ve heard it so many times I’ll hit you with a remix instead.

UV Boi
Ahhh I haven’t really been on a summer holiday before…I guess I’ll just say moving to Australia from Egypt. This is the soundtrack because it was my first favourite song when we moved here.
