PREMIERE: Reef Prince recruits POND’s Nick Allbrook for new clip Uber Jets

When you picture Perth’s current music scene, your mind most likely thinks of such bands as Tame Impala, POND, GUM, Methyl Ethel, or Psychedelic Porn Crumpets.

Well, go ahead and add rapper Reef Prince to that impressive cohort.

For his new single Uber Jets, Reef Prince has recruited fellow Perth musicians Nicholas Allbrook (POND) and Ginoli to lay down vocals and beats respectively.

Perth rapper Reef Prince’s new track Uber Jets (featuring Nick Allbrook) is an addictive new breed of DIY bedroom rap.

While the Western Australian capital is currently overflowing with brilliant psych music, Reef Prince is here break down walls with his infectious, lo-fi, bedroom rap tunes. The self-professed ‘Prince of The Ocean’ takes elements of psych rock and bends them into his own unique sound.

Now look, I haven’t been able to find much information about this guy online… and I can’t really understand the lyrics… but from what I can make out, the song is, in-fact, about Ubers, with a few oceanic references thrown in.

We take the uber all the way to the sea,” I believe is the line.

The song’s accompanying music video is spectacularly bizarre, and is definitely worth your time. If only for the brief scene of a shirtless Allbrook playing the flute.

Uber Jets is the first single from Reef Prince’s next EP Squid Loading, due out at some point later this year.

Reef Prince is celebrating the release of Uber Jets live at Mojos Bar in Fremantle on May 11th. Grab all the details here.
