Man, the musical land of Auckland must be very cosy indeed. After spending some time enjoying Perfect Hair Forever and their clip to Sad & Blue, I was eventually led to the Vimeo page for the New Zealand based directional outfit THUNDERLIPS. One of their video clips had been filed under the pretty much always reliable Vimeo Staff Picks. I was intrigued, hit play, and beautifully and totally accidentally found Randa (thank you to life’s serendipitous moments).

randaI came across 21 year old rapper Randa purely by chance, and thank the sweet lord I did. So much talent coming from this girl and her newest EP, Summer Camp.

Randa is a 21 year old rapper from Auckland and she is fucking good. The clip I was watching is to the first single taken from her second EP, Summer Camp. The track is called Frankenstein, and features the same dude who produced it, Reuben Winters (from other sick NZ bands Totems and Caroles). Phew! The concept of the video is sick, it kind of mirrors a 90’s American style teen sitcom, complete with canned laughter.

Randa has been rapping since she was 16, inspired and encouraged by the “weirdo emcee” movement out of LA and San Francisco. Now, she’s living and working out of Auckland. Check her out, you will not be disappointed.
