There’s nothing like an intense head-banger to round out the year. Thankfully Psychedelic Porn Crumpets had our backs.
Just before we decidedly flipped off 2017 and ticked in the New Year, Perth rockers Psychedelic Porn Crumpets played one hell of a gig at The Lansdowne with a bunch of mates including Maple Moths, Kimono Drag Queens and Hideous Sun Demon. What a lineup.
We’ve seen our fair share of wild ones, but this was something else. Luckily if you missed this string of shows, you can catch them on the east coast and Ozfest throughout January.
Local guys Maple Moths were up first, their heavy psych bordering proto metal drawing in the crowd like, um, moths to a flame? Heavy, riffy and perfectly lo-fi, we were off to a swinging start.
Kimono Drag Queens took the space afterwards with their own hypnotic, primeval brand of psych. With seven live members, it was as cosy on stage as it was getting amongst the crowd as more people closed in to catch the action.
Freo band Hideous Sun Demon ramped things up a notch and without much effort had the entire mosh piling over the speakers. Heavy on the screams, singer Vincent Buchanan also raps on some tracks and the result is a very rad, very manic live act.
Not simmering down for a minute, main dudes Psych Porn Crumpets shortly followed suit with the most hectic set in recent memory. Clearly the crowd had gotten the memo, because every single person lost their mind from the first song.
With such blistering openers, we wouldn’t have expected anything less.
