PREMIERE: Shining Bird unveil episode 1 of new tour doco From Austinmer To Alice

If you’re a fan of Shining Bird, you’ll know things have been somewhat quiet lately. Since releasing their acclaimed 2016 record Black Opal and heading on tour to celebrate, the band have returned home to southern NSW, slowly but surely piecing together the next release.

And it’s one we can’t wait to hear. Shining Bird took out the number one spot in our Top 100 Songs of 2016 and they’re playing the headline slot at our upcoming Issue 8 Launch as part of Vivid 2018, so we can hardly pretend we’re not fans at this point.

Today we’re stoked to bring you the first episode of From Austinmer To Alice, a five part doco series covering Shining Bird’s last tour. Watch it above.

Climb aboard Shining Bird’s tour bus with From Austinmer To Alice: “an honest account of a not-so-average album tour into the heart of Oz”.

“I wanted to capture all the funny shit people never really see while we’re on tour and to debunk Dane’s serious stage persona,” shared percussionist James Kates.

“Obviously it was a pretty out of the ordinary tour, so I felt compelled to film the shit out of it and slap the footage together.”

The series was put together by Kates, with a spot of healthy critique from keyboardist Russ.

“We initially tried a few different docco styles with interviews and what not but after sitting on the footage for almost a year it was agreed to release it as a raw dingo home movies style series.”

As for what The Bird have been up to since Black Opal, we were happy to hear concrete evidence there’s more music on it’s way.

“Between juggling ‘real’ jobs, uni and mental disorders we’re slowly piecing together a new record.”

Shining Bird will be releasing new episodes of From Austinmer To Alice each week leading up to the Happy Mag Issue 8 Launch, their first show of 2018. Keep an eye out for plenty more Bird to come.
