PREMIERE: Screw having a home, be the nomad you were born to be with Jackie Brown Jr’s new track Sauvignon Bogan

Crisp and vibrant, Sauvignon Bogan is the latest release from the suave Sydney 5 piece Jackie Brown Jr. Self described as “Pulp Fiction Soul Rock”, the tune holds true to form as a fun, classy and honest exploration of the plight of young Australians travelling at home or abroad.

Bursting out of the blocks with the lovely vocals of saxophonist and singer Maddy Mallis with a distinctly summery guitar riff, Sauvignon Bogan takes you away from the get go. Inspired by a road trip “in a budget car with your best friends” there is a definite feel of youth and exuberance throwing caution to the wind.

The tracks instrumental is incredibly bright and free flowing, combining elements of both soul and hip hop while also retaining the sort of travelling-road trippin’ feel that inspired it’s creation.

Jackie Brown Jr launch onto the scene with crisp premiere track Sauvignon Bogan. Fresh and vibrant, your road trip will be rolling sunbeams and unicorns.

The vocal interplay between Mallis and drummer-MC Rhyan Clapham is perhaps the starring element of the track. Despite addressing the serious issues of identity and place, the vocals have a strangely optimistic, non-defeatist feel to them, in line with the tracks soothing instrumental.

Mallis’ vocal versatility, which sees her wonderful husky voice enticing the senses during the refrain, and breaking it down with some tight and well constructed rapping throughout the verses, is a real auditory joy and indicative of the immense talent that she and her well organised band possess.

After listening to the track a few times you find yourself moving your head from side to side as it’s infectious tone and crispness resonates through both mind and body. The summery vibes of Sauvignon Bogan are perfectly complimented by the classy and calm composition of the track, giving it complexity, which only further adds to your appreciation of the piece.

While Jackie Brown Jr’s style is not something you come across often, Sauvignon Bogan has the feel of a track that could not offend the ears of any listener. It is unique, calming and happy in the purest of senses, leaving you wondering why you don’t hear music like this more often.

The band will be launching both Sauvignon Bogan and Lake Loser at Tokyo Sing Song in Newtown on Friday June 3. If you are keen for some good vibes and some great social music, we suggest you get down there and feel the love.
