Grammy award winning producer Dom Morley’s new single I’ll Stand, released under his own solo project V Pages (or Five Pages), sounds like it could be one of the tracks to dominate the European summer.
Responsible for the engineering of Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black album, Morley’s foray into the world of music as an artist comes off the back of working with some of the industries most prominent figures and appears to be an inspired move.
I’ll Stand is a synth driven anthem full of enthusiasm. With writing contributions and vocals provided by Field Stars (aka Colin MacIntyre from Mull Historical Society‘s upcoming project) the track gives off vibes of euphoria and rebellion and is sure to be a fixture at both electronic festivals and radio stations in the coming months.
This style of music has been immensely popular of late, evidenced in the success of bands like Chvrches and pioneers such as M83, both cited as influences of Morley’s.
Soon to fill the discotheques of Europe, V Pages’ new banger I’ll Stand is as catchy as a haul of crabs and reminiscent of the real good times of the 80s
There is a distinct stadium sound to I’ll Stand that puts it in good stead coming into festival season in Europe. It is a track that’s anthemic in nature, and the simple yet, effective vocals give it an inclusive capacity that is sure to see it find its way in to many dance playlists, wild nights and the memories of youth.
Such is the carefree feel of I’ll Stand’s dancey and joyous synth scape, it is hard to imagine that this track without jubilant neon lights flashing, beer freely flowing and a lil’ pinch of chaos. The message of camaraderie coupled with its youthful exuberance fit perfectly with its intended audience of young, energetic electronica and synth enthusiasts.

Morley’s explains his vision of I’ll Stand as “the soundtrack to one of the great John Hughes teenage-rite-of-passage films from the 80’s” and goes on to suggest that the supporting video is his own “love-letter to those films.”
This is an incredibly fitting description of the track and its feel and no doubt gives us an insight into where he senses the tracks appeal will be. If The Breakfast Club finds its way into the hands of re-makers any time soon, I’ll Stand would certainly not be out of place in a revised score.
With more music to follow this release V Pages first offering I’ll Stand is a fun filled first offering that bodes well for the future.
