PREMIERE: Fremantle scuzz lords Moistoyster are back in business with their salty new single Delusional Health

The indie rockers from Fremantle with the best name in the business are back with another single to follow up their 2016 Dead EP.

Moistoyster, the four-piece made up of George Foster, Jack Gaby, Jordan Shakespeare and Sam Atkin, first came to light two years ago when they quietly released a number of scuzzy garage rock jams onto SoundCloud. Since then it’s been nothing if not a wild ride for the boys, and Delusional Health is the latest episode.

With a love of garage rock, psychedelia and apparently crustaceans, Moistoyster are carving a scuzzy sonic niche upon the coastline of Fremantle.

Their first EP showed the band evolving from their garage origins, adding a few psychedelic touches to their recipe while also capturing a beachy feel in tracks like Claustrophobic Sitting. The sandy touch should come as no surprise considering the group’s geography in Fremantle and apparent love for molluscs and crustaceans.

At the end of this week, Moistoyster will be set to release another EP. Today’s new single Delusional Health is the proud lead track.

While the band continues to stay loyal to their own style, they manage to pack a lot more into this new song. Straight away their distinctive garage rock sound comes through with a steady set of blinding riffs.

The reverb on the vocals adds to the laid-back, summery feel to the song. When the instrumentals die down, Foster’s vocals are harmonised to create a sound similar to Temples. Those high-pitched harmonised lyrics are followed up by a quirky lower voice to contrast it.

After being named the runners up in the Big Splash Band Competition in 2016, the band took some time off gigs to focus on their second EP. The record was produced entirely by the band, the recording taking place in one of their living rooms, Jordan Shakespeare mixing and editing, and George Foster providing the cover art.

Moistoyster will be launching their new EP this week at Mojo’s in Fremantle. Supporting them will be Shit Narnia, Last Quokka, Lewis Rice O’Donnell and the Feast of Snakes, The Body Boys, Lifestyle and Boat (EDM) Show as well as FOAM DJ’s.
