PREMIERE: Floaty, fuzzy and fresh off the press, Zockapilli dream of fervid times on Fever Dream

Flirting with the carefree, lo-fi rock vibe that Australia is lapping up at the moment, Zockapilli have spent the better part of 2017 knuckling down with Brad Dadson of Side Stare Music (The Pretty Littles, Jo Vertigo), working on their debut record.

Fever Dream is the first single, leading the imminent LP with a hazy, wandering vibrance that’s utterly intoxicating.

Slip into a carefree, wistful rock soundscape of Fever Dream, the leading single from Zockapilli’s upcoming 2017 debut.

Despite the nonchalant image Sandy, Roy and Josh from Zockapilli project upon the world, this single shows they have a finger placed upon the pulse with a surgeon’s accuracy. The realms of lo-fi, phased out rock n roll drenched in slacker’s reverb is hot hot hot right now, and these fellas have jumped on board.

That’s not to say they’re simply following a trend. A single listen of Fever Dream displays a higher proclivity for the use of light, shade and catchy vocal hooks than the rest of the crowd, the band presenting their own nebulous cocktail with hefty effectiveness.

The simple progression drives the track along, forming a competent backbone for the vocals when combined with some easygoing percussion. Never flying too close to the sun, even the song’s bridge is somewhat restrained, seeing only the addition of organ lines and a few extras pedals in the mix.

When a band gets the simple things right like Zockapilli have here, I always find myself thinking two things. Firstly “fuck – why couldn’t I come up with that?” and secondly “I can’t wait to hear what they do next”.

Keep your ears to the ground for these fellas’ debut record. Side Stare Records seem to boast a little bit of the Midas touch lately, and Zockapilli is certainly no exception.

Zockapilli are officially launching Fever Dream this Friday at The Tote in Collingwood. Grab all the details here and make sure you head on down.
