PREMIERE: Raw and frantic, Flight To Dubai’s new single Graduation will hit you straight in the heart

Soaring down from Newcastle, Flight To Dubai have touched down in Sydney to delight your post-punk sensibilities with their new track Graduation.

Graduation is a brutally honest and hard hitting single that confronts the stark reality of losing someone you love. It’s with songs like these that lead singer Matt’s howling Kirin J Callinan-esque vocals stand out the most.

Flight to Dubai’s desperate vocals and frantic guitar work is testament to the confusion surrounding loss, driving their music straight to your heart.

The sound of Flight to Dubai can be described as a happier Joy Division, or indeed a more gleeful Ian Curtis. Peppered with early Arctic Monkeys and accompanied by the haunted, cursed howls of Nick Cave.

Nobody told me there would be days like these” is the line that continues to echo throughout my mind as I watch the accompanying video. The camera work grows more frantic as the song progresses, symbolising the descending chaos of grieving.

The video and song reaches its climax at the end, when we accept a piece of our life – of our very being – is truly gone as our large headed friend drops the part of himself he was so desperately trying to hold onto.

Graduation comes off Flight To Dubai’s latest 7″ release. B-side Last Hue is just as excellent – give it a spin above.

Raw and honest songwriting in conjunction with a tight band seems like a winning combination to me. I can’t wait to see what they cook up next.

Flight to Dubai are touring Graduation all through May. Grab the dates on the tour poster below, and head over here for details.
