PREMIERE: Even your grandma and grandpa will wanna dance to 1960’s by The Gypsy Scholars

The Gypsy Scholars are so damn infectious it hurts. In the clip for their latest single 1960’s, even your grandparents are dancing with them.

Taking their feel-good, big band vibes to the prestigious National Portrait Gallery, the cyclical video follows James Kelly, Conagh McMahon-Hogan, Joel Shapero and Alec Brinsmead as they smash out their latest hit.

However it’s the performances from Megan and Justin Flynn which really seal the deal.

Celebrating the social activism of times gone by, the clip for 1960’s nestles its serious message behind the classic, happy-go-lucky attitude of The Gypsy Scholars.

Around a month ago we had the pleasure of first hearing this track, a deliciously groovy toe-tapper brimming with brass, layered limericks and bright vocals start to finish.

Like the hits of the time period from which this song takes it’s name, 1960’s boasts the ability to get just about anyone into the swing of it; a single listen will have the head bopping, get the feet itchy and have you humming along to the alarmingly catchy call-and-response lyrics.

The video echoes this old-world charm; humble in its simplicity. The National Portrait Gallery is almost completely bare in the clip save for a minimalistic set. The Gypsy Scholars were never trying to impress, just to have a bit of fun.

Special mentions to the Flynns for proving that age is just an attitude. My grandparents sure can’t dance like that.

For that matter, neither can I.

Don’t miss The Gypsy Scholars playing National Folk Festival in Canberra, kicking off this Thursday April 14th.
