PREMIERE: Aussie pop doesn’t get any catchier than 2+2, the debut single from TAWLS

The Adventures of Wonderchild and Little Seal (TAWLS for short) are bringing you a dance-friendly incarnation of boppy indie pop in their debut single 2+2.

Wonderchild (Anna-Kat) and Little Seal (Ronan Chapple) were part of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts’ graduating class of 2015, and have both released singles of their own since then. TAWLS sees the two combine their powers in a new project, releasing 2+2 to the world days before the beginning of their Australian tour.

Bright, energetic and so catchy it should be illegal, let 2+2 be your gateway drug into the indie pop kaleidoscope of TAWLS.

Bearing the bouncy synths of a festival house jam and the twinkling vocals you’d expect from pop’s best2+2 is a frighteningly effective debut. Eclectic use of sampling, off-beat percussion and the surprise inclusion of some tasty brass all combine in a tight-knit package.

Not to mention, that chorus hook is so catchy it hurts.

Anna-Kat’s vocal performance is hard to fault, bearing the obvious marks of someone who has spent years honing their craft. The same can be said for the instrumental; no doubt WAAPA is doing plenty of good work for its musical alumni.

2+2 has all the makings of a future hit; there’s light and shade between the chorus and verses, there’s depth and affection in the lyrics, and there’s an undeniable sensation that this track will be stuck in your head for weeks to come.
