Rising Australian metalcore band Northlane have joined Violent Soho in being jotted down on a provisional lineup for the next edition of Australia’s biggest heavy music festival. The Sydneysiders are the second band to become (unofficially) a part of Soundwave 2016, who like Violent Soho before them, had a very public chat on Twitter with the controversial and outspoken festival director, AJ Maddah.
Northlane, who have a third album in the works that is scheduled to be released later this year, directly tweeted Maddah to ask if they could play:
@Northlane Of course guys! #SW16 is shaping up to be a big one!

Violent Soho found their way onto Soundwave after a fan tweeted Maddah about including them on the bill, which the Brisbane rockers retweeted:
@DJanouris @violentsoho if they want on we would be very happy to have them.

@violentsoho @DJanouris Sweet. Very proud to have you. Let’s get the specifics sorted out in private :) Welcome to #SW16.

It’s very important to stress that these aren’t official announcements – talking of which, Maddah is saying there’ll be some “very exciting news soon”. One can only hope that he’s managed to bury the hatchet with Closure in Moscow, brought Isis back from the dead, and will bring out Converge, Between the Buried and Me, Karnivool, Meshuggah and sleepmakeswaves and plop them all on one stage. If Maddah wants to live to the hype of ‘very exciting’, that is.
Whatever you say about digital social media, it’s broken down barriers. If you have a band, or would like a favourite artist of yours to appear at Soundwave next year, why not tweet the man himself @iamnotshouting? Follow his extended Twitter feed for all news and ruled in/ruled out acts.
