Nick Cave pens an open letter to 10-year-old Aussie fan

There is something beautiful about the way children ask for advice. 10-year-old Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds fan Ptolemy’s letter to Nick Cave is no exception.

When 10-year-old Ptolemy from Launceston wrote to Nick Cave asking for advice, he never could have expected the inspiring and philosophical letter he received back from the Aussie icon.

Ptolemy asked Nick if listening to his music at his early age would have any effect on him, as none of his friends listen to anything cool, interesting, or beautiful, to which the Bad Seeds mastermind responded with a letter titled Before I received the secret knowledge.”

In the inspiring piece, Nick shares his similar experiences in finding obscure music as a young child and how this allowed him to find the secret knowledge. He went on the explain in true Nick Cave fashion:

This secret knowledge you have is a strength that lives only inside certain people. It is a strength that will inspire you to do wondrous things – like write stories, or draw pictures, or build rockets that fly to Mars. It will give you the courage to take on anything that the world might put in front of you. It’s a wild power that can be of untold value to the world … The world is waiting for you. Blow ‘em away, kid.”

Inspiring words for a kid to read from their hero, we can’t wait to see what Ptolemy does when he grows up!
