MySpace kooks it, accidentally deletes 12 years of music

MySpace has made a serious mess of things this week, accidentally deleting all photos, videos and every single music file that was uploaded onto the site between 2003 and 2015. That’s 50 million songs and 12 years of millennial culture gone, capeesh.

From the angsty teens who uploaded their makeshift punk music to the platform to the indie-rock listeners who discovered The Arctic Monkeys there for the first time, the news comes as a shock to all MySpace addicts. The platform has been described numerous times as the ‘mother of all social media’.

MySpace has accidentally deleted 12 years of photos, videos and music files from the platform whilst botching a server migration.

Despite the news only surfacing this week, this actually happened about a year ago when reports of lost data were discussed on Reddit, with MySpace managing to lay low until now. The mishap occurred whilst the platform was migrating servers.

This week MySpace made an official statement, saying:

“As a result of a server migration project, any photos, videos, and audio files you uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available on or from Myspace.”

I don’t know about you, but now I’m going to go blast Paris Hilton and Panic At The Disco just for old time’s (and MySpace’s) sake.
