My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields confirms a new album will 100% be out next year in an interview with Pitchfork.

Rumours started stirring a few weeks back when a festival bio for Shields claimed that a new My Bloody Valentine album would arrive in 2018.

Fans on Reddit also began speculating a new album was in the works after a t-shirt popped up on the MBV official online store, which one Redditor noted always coincided with an album release.

Just a few days ago, My Bloody Valentine drummer Colm Ó Cíosóig said in an interview that a new album was definitely “in the making”.

Then, in a interview with Pitchfork published yesterday, Shields was asked to confirm that the band would be releasing a new album next year. “Oh, we one hundred percent will,” he said.

“We started recording it a year ago, and then we just kept on stopping because of this,” he said, referencing the new analog remasters of two My Bloody Valentine albums, Loveless and Isn’t Anything, that were also recently announced.

“So the last time we worked on it was a month or two months ago. I’m still hovering over this project until it’s basically in manufacturing, then it’s back into the album. Finishing it.”

It has been unsure what kind of release the new material would be, but Shields clarified this too.

“Basically, the record started off as an EP, and I realised it has to be, like, a mini-album, because it’s going to be at least 40 minutes long. So it’s going to be an album, but I don’t really know how many tracks it’s going to be. It’ll probably be seven or eight, by the looks of it.”

Shields also said that the band have plans to tour next year following the release. “We’re going to play live again, so that’s always a really good way to guarantee that we’ll get the record done.”

Stay tuned for more details.
