Music You Need: a playlist by dream pop darlings Lubulwa

Last week we came across Lubulwa, a Melbourne four-piece making spectral pop. The connection came by the way of their self-titled debut EP, a sterling entry in the southern scene’s shoegaze revival.

Between the powerful baritone of lead singer Peter Lubulwa, the cacophonous walls of sound, and the uplifting melodies which form their output, it was hard to get an exact handle on where they’ve come from. We wondered, where did they take their influence?

Hunting out some new Australian tunes? Eat up 36 top tunes courtesy of Lubulwa, Melbourne’s up-and-coming indie heroes.

Turns out, they’re in deep with the Australian DIY/indie scene, calling in notes from the likes of Camp Cope, RVG, Methyl Ethel and more.

For easy consumption, we asked Lubulwa to stack up these influences in a handy Spotify playlist. Dive into it for yourself below.

Consider it homework for their gig this weekend: April 7th at the Grace Darling Hotel at 8pm. Grab the finer details right here.

If you miss that, Lubulwa will also be supporting Moody Beaches at Cactus Room on Friday April 13th.
