Muddy Waters’ psychedelic LP Electric Mud set for vinyl reissue through Third Man Records

The fifth studio album from blues pioneer Muddy Waters is set to be reissued on vinyl through Jack White’s Third Man Records.

Electric Mud was originally released in 1968, marking Waters’ attempt to corner the psychedelic movement which exploded into a global phenomenon during 1967’s Summer of Love.

As Waters himself put it in the liner notes, “Quite naturally, I like a good-selling record. I was looking at it because I played for so many of these so-called hippies that I thought probably I could reach them.”

Electric Mud, the psychedelia-tinged fifth LP from legendary blues musician Muddy Waters, will be reissued on vinyl this month via Third Man Records.

Electric Mud has gone on to secure an enduring legacy, former Billboard editor even citing that “The rhythm seems to anticipate hip-hop by three decades.” More recently, Gorillaz sampled Mannish Boy on their B-Side Left Hand Suzuki Method.
