2017 is proving to be somewhat of a watershed year for rappers, hip-hop vocalists and beatmakers in Australia that aren’t, well, white dudes. A.B. Original are storming the scene with their renowned fury, Baker Boy is making a name for himself rapping in the Yolngu Matha language, and now Miss Blanks is shaking the airwaves with her unapologetic, empowering and altogether formidable rhymes.

An in-your-face ambassador for powerful women the world over, she’s ripping a path through Brisbane, Australia and beyond. And we reckon she’s just getting started.

Fierce, forceful and as far from fragile as they come, Miss Blanks is the ferocious Brisbane rapper preaching for women’s empowerment.

Miss Blanks’ latest cut Freq U dives into darker EDM sonics that what she’s previously released. A deep house-worthy bassline wobbles under her rhymes, it’s club ready hip-hop at its most irresistible.

Not to work against the uncensored vitality she crafted on previous tracks Clap Clap or Fuck Real SlowFreq U dives into sex and freedom with the same honesty.

Combining the full-frontal, hedonistic veracity of Princess Nokia with the commanding, queenlike presence of FKA Twigs, she’s not the kind of up-and-comer to be missed. The best artists the world over are the ones with something real to say, and Miss Blanks has no shortage in that department.

And we’re hardly the only ones noticing her. Days ago she announced her signing to Trench Records, one of Australia’s most invigorating new labels headed by Moonbase.

If her lyrics are to be believed (given the fiery attitude they’re spat out with, I’m inclined to say they should be), then this woman is headed for the top of the game. Best you joined the ride early, while you can still keep up.

Australia and the world needs more MCs with a herculean female voice, and that’s exactly what Miss Blanks offers up.
