Seminal electronic legends The Avalanches are a tough group to pin down. Their first release in 16 years, Wildflower is still making serious rounds throughout the country and around the world, and rightly so.
Yesterday the band announced to Fairfax that they’ll not only be playing Falls Festival this year, but also three headline shows in the country’s major cities.
The Avalanches are an illusive bunch, but today they finally give Aussies a chance to see them live without buying a ticket to a major festival.
On what fans should expect coming in to these historic shows, The Avalanches’ Tony Di Blasi had a word or two.
“We had time coming in to Splendour, but probably not as much as we would have liked, to make the show as good as we could. Now we have the time.”
The band did receive a spot of criticism for their Splendour performance, and perhaps a lack of preparation was to blame. On the other hand, it’s entirely possible that they were met with an unrealistic amount of expectation coming into the set – entirely possible for a group this high profile.
Regardless, this shouldn’t be an issue for the coming shows, according to Di Blasi.
“Splendour was a matter of playing the songs as they were, but now we’ll be doing extensions and rejigging a few. We’ll take the music to the new level we know it can get to.”
