Enter the sprawling sonic universe of Milkpunch’s new album Moonshine

Since releasing his debut EP Junk Pop last year, 19-year-old multi-instrumentalist Raf Lima (otherwise known as Milkpunch) has built himself as one of the country’s most dynamic emerging acts. With his disorientating blend of sounds, the young artist has garnered the attention of listeners from all over the country. And honestly, it’s no surprise – if you’re not already on this bandwagon, stop kidding yourself and come join in on the fun.

With the release of his debut full-length album Moonshine, Lima has delivered a body of work unlike anything else currently making the rounds.

On his new album Moonshine, Sydney based artist Milkpunch delivers a dynamic and surreal collection of songs that will consume you wholly.

Throughout the new album, Milkpunch glides through a hallucinatory concoction of psych, jazz, pop and garage to craft a sound uniquely his own. Like some holy union between Ariel Pink, Thee Oh Sees and Mildlife, Milkpunch’s music is a vibrant cocktail of pure listening bliss.

The album’s instrumental opener Le Matin will have you immediately entranced. From here, Lima’s rich soundscapes will ooze over you, guiding you through a series of surreal sonic environments. The deeper into the album you go, the more immersive it becomes.

Afternoon In Arpoador acts as a sort of halfway point for the record, and from here, Moonshine pulls fervently in myriad directions. The album never sits in one place for too long, and that is perhaps its most endearing quality. By the time the album’s closing track Stars (La Nuit) fades out of existence, you’ll have been roped in completely to Milkpunch’s hypnotic sounds.

These are still early days for this Sydney based artist, but based on everything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality material from Milkpunch.

For now, do yourself a favour and listen to Moonshine above.
